The Columbia Township Police Department has arrested a Cement City resident for assaulting a school administrator.
The Columbia Township Police Department has arrested a Cement City resident for assaulting a school administrator from Brooklyn Elementary that occurred on Friday, November 21, 2014.
On Friday, November 21, 2014, just before 3:00 P.M., Principal Powell was meeting with two students of hers, and their parents, in the office. The husband and two children left her office, and the mother remained speaking with the Principal.
The father then returned, and as the Principal was standing behind the door, holding it shut, the suspect lowered his shoulder and rammed the door. This not only forced the door open, but sent Principal Powell flying across the room, causing her to strike her head against furniture and breaking a dish on her desk.
Although Columbia Township Officers were on scene quickly, the suspect had fled the area. His residence in Cement City was checked several times, and he eventually returned to his residence that evening, at which time he was arrested and then lodged at the Jackson County Jail.
On Saturday, officers met with the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, and Jimmie Glen Porter, 27 of Cement City was charged with Assault and Battery, a misdemeanor.
On November 24th, 2014 Jimmie Porter was arraigned by Judge Mazur of the 12th Dist and has been released on bond with future court dates. Additionally Mr. Porter has been banned from school property.
