SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Two car accident
DATE AND TIME: Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 2:30 pm
LOCATION: Lake Montcalm near Maple Hill Roads, Pierson Township
The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two car crash involving a school bus on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Lake Montcalm Road near Maple Hill Road in Pierson Township.
The investigation revealed that a Tri County School bus was stopped and letting a student off in front of their home on Lake Montcalm Road when a 1996 Ford Ranger pickup struck the rear of the bus. The Ford, driven by a 16 year old Sand Lake youth, was travelling east bound and could not stop due to icy roads.
There were approximately 25 students on the bus and none of them were injured. The students were transferred to another school bus and they continued on their route. The driver of the Ford and his 17 year old passenger were both belted, the air bags in the Ford did deploy, and neither was injured.
All of the lights on the bus were working at the time of the crash and there appeared to be no other contributing factors in the crash. The drive of the Ford was cited for failing to use due care and caution while operation a motor vehicle.
