The Canyon Police Department has received four separate calls in the last 15 minutes from citizens about a possible scam. It appears that an individual, with a heavy foreign accent, is calling claiming to be from the Canyon Police Department. The individual identifies himself from the “Canyon City Police Department” . With the use of cell phone software, the scammer has manipulated caller I.D. to display the Canyon Police Department phone number. We have information that the person might be calling past and present students from West Texas A&M University. Canyon Police officials ask citizens not to give out personal information of any kind over the phone. The Canyon Police department does not demand funds from phone solicitations. If citizens receive a call from someone claiming to be from “Canyon City Police”, we suggest they hang up. Citizens are more than welcome to call the Canyon PD at 655-5005 to verify or dismiss our attempt to notify them about a law enforcement matter.
