BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Kelso woman in custody for charges in a fraud investigation.
Rena Elizabeth Miller (44) of 311 Cherry Street, Kelso, Missouri has been charged with the Class C Felony of Theft of a Credit Card and the Class D Felony of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Device.
Sheriff Walter states that on Thursday, November 20th, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Corporal Justin Wooten began an investigation into the fraudulent use of a credit card. The victim stated she had received a statement from the credit card company indicating the card had been used, and that she owed a minimum payment. The victim stated the card had not been used since 2008. The victim contacted the credit card company fraud department, and was informed that approximately $5,000.00 in charges had been made on the card. The victim provided Corporal Wooten with information leading to Miller as the suspect.
Corporal Wooten was advised by the credit card company that the card was reactivated in September of 2014, and that the total transactions to date were $4,853.24. The company advised that the card, in the victim’s name, had been sent to Miller’s address.
On Tuesday, November 25th, Corporal Wooten met with Miller at her residence. Miller admitted to using the credit card, and to making specific purchases. Miller stated that she had paid the balance of $5,000.00 on Friday, November 21st. Miller also admitted that she knew the card was in the name of the victim. Miller was arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail pending the filing of charges by the prosecutor.
Sheriff Walter praised the diligent work of Corporal Wooten on the investigation and the subsequent arrest of Miller.
