The Columbia Township Police Department is currently working to attempt to locate an elderly resident of Brooklyn, MI.

On Sunday, November 30, 2014, Columbia Township Police Officer Brian Schneider was contacted by a Brooklyn Village resident regarding his father, who had left their residence on foot. The father is 82 year old Calvin Kenneth Kroupa, of Delamater Street, in Brooklyn.

Calvin and his son were standing on Delamater having a discussion, when Calvin became upset, and began walking off. The son requested that he return or that he would be calling the police. Calvin continued walking East on Michigan, as the son returned to the house on Delamater to get the vehicle. He immediately began driving the area looking for Calvin, to no avail. The son then came to the Columbia Township Police Department for assistance.

Officer Schneider checked local streets and businesses in an attempt to locate Calvin, unsuccessfully. The Michigan State Police K-9 then responded to the area to assist with an attempt at tracking. During that time, one resident on Michigan Street reported that they believed another neighbor had possibly given the subject a ride.

Contact with that second neighbor revealed that Calvin had approached the residents, and Calvin was eventually given a ride to the Mobil Station in Napoleon. He was dropped off there at approximately 2:45 P.M. During this ride to Napoleon, Calvin was conversing about heading to the Manistee area, where a sibling resides.

The Mobil station was closed on Sunday evening by the time this information on Calvin being dropped off there was obtained. Contact with the Mobil on Monday morning revealed that Calvin had approached more than one person in the lot, inquiring about a ride. There was surveillance footage available that shows Calvin eventually walking off westbound on M-50 at approximately 3:00 P.M. One image from the security camera is posted below, primarily to show Calvin’s attire, and the black bag he was carrying. The second photograph is a slightly younger looking Calvin from a family photo.

The son advised that Calvin speaks well, and can approach and talk with anyone. This is evident not only by his ability to get a ride from a stranger to Napoleon, but by his approaching persons in the parking lot in Napoleon, looking for a ride.

Calvin was last seen wearing tan colored pants, a black coat, and a black hat. He was carrying a small black bag. Calvin is approximately 5’09”, 185 lbs, gray hair, blue eyes, and wears glasses.

Calvin takes medication for depression, and was current on the prescription at the time he left the residence.

If located, check welfare and advise Columbia Township Police Department at 517-592-3122.
