The Columbia Township Police Department has concluded their attempts to locate an elderly resident of Brooklyn, MI.

Calvin Kenneth Kroupa, of Delamater Street, in Brooklyn was reported as missing on Sunday, November 30, 2014. Columbia Township Police were contacted by a Brooklyn Village resident regarding his father, who had left their residence on foot.

Calvin was initially determined to have obtained a ride to the Mobil station in Napoleon on that Sunday afternoon, and although they were closed at the time officers arrived there shortly after 10 P.M. on Sunday, video footage the next morning confirmed Kroupa had left there on foot walking westbound on M-50.

That information, along with Mr. Kroupa’s description, was disseminated to news agencies and on the Columbia Township Police Department Facebook page. Information began flowing in from citizens that had either given him a ride, or had seen him at various places as he made his way North.

He was eventually reported to be in the Lansing/East Lansing area, and by all accounts, he was fine.

At approximately 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 03, 2014, the Columbia Township Police Department was contacted by East Lansing Police, who were out with Mr. Kroupa at the Tim Horton’s in their jurisdiction. They checked his status and reported him to be fine, noting that he was now dressed in three layers of clothing.

Upon inquiring if he would return to Brooklyn if a ride was arranged, Mr. Kroupa declined, advising he was going to be making his way to Florida. His son in Brooklyn was notified.

As Mr. Kroupa appeared to be fully capable of caring for himself, and with no legal reason to take any other action to assist him, the investigation is being concluded at this time.
