Early Morning Monroe County Crash Shuts Down Traffic on State Road 37
Bloomington – Today, just after 7:30 AM, a 1989 International Tractor Trailer combination driven by Eugene Brown, 53 of Noblesville, was southbound on State Road 37 south of Bloomington in the construction zone approaching the intersection of Victor Pike. A 2008 Pontiac G6, driven by Jessica Riley, 27 of Bloomington, was traveling northbound on SR37 approaching Victor Pike. A third vehicle, a 2014 Ford truck, driven by Nathan Rotett, 27 of Oolitic, was traveling south on SR37 ahead of the tractor trailer.
Rotett’s Ford truck had slowed due to a vehicle that was stopped in both the left turn lane and the southbound lane on SR37. As Brown's semi attempted to slow down behind the pickup truck, it began to slide on the wet roadway, ultimately jack-knifing and striking the door of the northbound Pontiac. The semi then struck the rear of the Ford truck with its passenger side fuel tank.
Traffic was shut down for nearly 20 minutes as crews worked the scene.
The Indiana State Police would like to remind drivers to slow down and increase their following distance in construction zones, especially in wet road conditions.
Senior Trooper Ryan Miller, the Perry Clear Creek Fire Department and IU Health Bloomington EMS all assisted at the scene.
