Major storm to impact the Placerville area starting Wednesday.
The National Weather Service is anticipating a major storm to impact the area starting Wednesday night and lasting through Friday. Wind gusts of up to 60 and 70 mph are expected to hit the area with 2-5" of rain to fall within 24 hours, in the foothill areas. There could be power outages from downed power lines and flooding in some areas within the city. If you are impacted by isolated flash flooding conditions, the City of Placerville will have sand and sand bags at 3045 Sacramento Street, across from Fire Station #25. Please only take what you absolutely need.
Also, as a reminder, the area winter nomadic shelter program is in operation for those in need of temporary shelter from the storm.
The Placerville Police Department would like to remind you to not drive in areas that appear to be flooded and to slow down in inclement weather conditions. Do not attempt to drive over or approach downed power lines, call 9-1-1 immediately. Preparation of an emergence kit with extra food, medical supplies and medicines, water, etc. is always a good idea. For more detailed family preparation tips please check the Red Cross website at http://www.redcross.org/prepare/location/home-family.
As isolated flash flooding conditions occur within the City of Placerville, we will monitor those areas and advise on public safety concerns and road closures. Public Works employees are currently working throughout the city to ensure storm drains are clear and serviceable. They will continue to respond to any impacted areas throughout the storm. Director of City Public Works Steve Youel is advising, "Crews are out working around the clock to keep our citizens safe."
