For second time in a month, Camillus Police with Naloxone save a life

For the second time in less than a month, Camillus Police use Naloxone to reverse the effects of a suspected heroin overdose, saving a life.

On Dec. 9th at 7:52 p.m., Camillus Police and WAVES Ambulance responded to the report of an unconscious man in a residence on Ike Dixon Road in the Town of Camillus.

Camillus Police Officer, James Alvarez was the first officer to arrive and found a 22-year-old man unconscious, suffering from a suspected heroin overdose. Officer Alvarez administered a dose of Naloxone while a family member performed CPR and the man regained consciousness.

The man was treated at the scene by WAVES Ambulance and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center.

The Camillus Police Department was trained in the use of Naloxone in September and kits have recently been deployed and are available to every police officer as part of Attorney General Schneiderman’s Community Overdose Prevention (COP) Program.

Naloxone is a proven life saving drug for people at risk of immediate death from an opioid overdose, including heroin and/or prescription pain pills.
