Fake IRS agents scare consumers into paying up

Phone scams are back in the area. A resident reported getting a call from someone claiming they were a police officer with the IRS and demanded payment immediately or the resident would go to jail. Please do not fall prey to these scams. Hang up immediately. These callers manipulate caller ID to make the number appear to come from the IRS or the jail or wherever they say they are calling from. If you owe money to the IRS or anyone else, you would most likely receive a lot of written communication from them.
