Burglaries - Vehicle and Residential. What can you do to prevent becoming a victim.
Have you ever been locked out of your home? Were you able to get in anyway? Now think about it…if you could break into your own home, it is just as easy for someone else to break in, too. One out of 10 homes will be burglarized this year, and many intruders will spend no more than 60 seconds trying to break into a home. The best prediction of a future burglary is a past burglary. Therefore, it is important to take preventative measures now. Strong locks—and good neighbors who look out for one another—can be effective deterrents to burglars.
One of the more frequent crimes is vehicle burglaries. Unfortunately, many of the victims may have prevented this crime by simply locking their car doors. An unlocked door is convenient for the offender. They are less likely to leave evidence behind than if they were forced to break a window. Insurance covers your vehicle, so let's make it harder on the criminal or even better make it so they will not even try. Also, remember criminals are looking for valuables that are left in plain view. Some of the most popular items stolen are briefcases, cameras, cell phones, global positioning systems (GPS), I-Passes, I-Pods, purses, radar detectors, and wallets. Best to remove them from the vehicle or put them in the glove box or trunk.
