The Novato EOC has officially closed as of 8:30 p.m. PST.
The Novato Fire District and the City of Novato have been working closely for the past several days to plan for today’s storm event. Since the start of the storm, the City’s Public Works crews and the Novato Police Department have been patrolling citywide and monitoring flood prone areas — clearing storm drains and debris and fallen trees from roadways.
The Novato Emergency Operation Center (EOC) opened at midnight last night to provide emergency response to storm-related incidents. The EOC is also responsible for monitoring suspected trouble spots and providing proactive mitigation of storm-related impacts.
A successful emergency response team effort responded to over 100 calls for service within a five hour time period. Calls for service included water intrusion into homes, arcing wires, flooding on roads, downed trees, and power outages. The EOC monitored Novato roads, provided information and regular updates to the community. News reports were sent out on a regular basis to media outlets, the City’s Facebook page, Nixle, and the Novato Fire Department website.
“The City and Special Districts worked in strong partnership with the common goal to ensure the community’s safety through this storm.” – City Manager Michael Frank, Police Chief Jim Berg and Fire Chief Mark Heine.
The Novato Joint Emergency Operations Center wishes to acknowledge the commitment of residents and business owners of Novato who did their part to take this storm event seriously, staying home and/or working from home, reducing the overall number of incidents as well as keeping traffic to a minimum and allowing emergency crews to do their jobs.
While the major rain event has passed, rain and thunderstorms continue and high winds are forecast until 10:00 p.m. tonight. Police, Fire and Public Works personnel will continue to work and are on-call 24-hours to address flooding of public roads and facilities.
