Advisory

Kunia Road closures start Monday evening; plan for impacts on Schofield and Wheeler

The State’s Department of Transportation will be closing southbound Kunia Road (toward Ewa Beach) for repairs, from Wilikina Avenue to Lyman Gate, 7:30 p.m.-4:30 a.m., Dec. 15-19.

Two-way traffic will be contra-flowed in the northbound lanes (toward Wahiawa) during these hours. The normal traffic pattern of both lanes being open will resume 4:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

The repairs will be conducted during the evening hours to alleviate vehicle congestion around Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Airfield and Wahiawa during peak commuting times.

Please allow additional time and use extra caution when traveling in this area as the following impacts will be in place:
-Foote Gate (SB) will close early at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 15-19.
-Lyman Gate (SB) and Kunia Gate (WAAF) will close 7:30 p.m.-4:30 a.m., Dec. 17-19.
-Kawamura Gate will be open 24 hours, Dec. 17-19 for access to Wheeler Army Airfield.
-Kawamura Gate will also serve as the Vehicle Processing Center for both installations, 7:30 p.m.-4:30 a.m., Dec. 17-19.

Residents on Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield may notice increased noise and lighting during evening hours for the duration of this project.

The evening closures will move to the northbound lanes beginning the week of Dec. 21 with contra-flow in the southbound lanes. Look for additional information about these impacts to be released at a later time.

We regret the inconvenience caused by this construction as the garrison partners with the DOT to pave the way to a better roads and a better future.
