On arrival at the scene, it was determined that the alleged shooter, Michael Newman had departed. Officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety located him at his East Kathleen residence in Sikeston and detained him for the sheriff’s office.
Deputy Caudle attempted to make contact with the caller Wade L. Griffin, who was inside the residence. Griffin had advised the 911 Communications Dispatcher during the call that he had been shot at and did not know if he had been hit.

She stated that her father did not have a gun. She indicated that Griffin may be using drugs. Natish Newman gave deputies permission to search the residence for illicit drugs.
That search resulted in the recovery of a baggy containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. That baggy was located in the floor of a bedroom used by two children ages five and six. The deputies also observed numerous other indicators of living conditions that would create a substantial risk to the health of the two children living at the residence.
Both Griffin and Natish Newman were arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail.
At the jail, Griffin was advised of his Miranda rights and volunteered to speak with Deputy Caudle. He admitted to ownership of the methamphetamine. He also submitted a urine sample for analysis that indicated positive for methamphetamine.
