Arlington Police Chief hosts 2nd Annual Holiday Jingle Contest

Arlington Police Chief Will D. Johnson hosted a holiday contest inviting officers to write a holiday safety jingle. The rules were simple. Come up with a message for a holiday jingle that addressed a community issue and reinforced holiday safety. Officers had several weeks to be creative as this contest kicked off on November 2, 2014.

The Chief received several entries from across the department and ultimately selected a winning jingle idea. This year’s top jingle, Sleigh Bells Ring, was submitted by Officer Rebecca Hyder. Chief Johnson will be reporting to duty on Christmas Day to work Rebecca’s shift so she can have the day to spend with family and friends.

This is the second annual holiday contest that Chief Johnson has held. Last year’s contest challenged officers to write a creative photo caption. Officer Brandon Evans, declared the winner, was given Christmas Day off in 2013 and Chief Johnson worked Brandon’s shift.

While it’s a nice touch to have Chief Johnson working alongside patrol officers on Christmas Day, it’s really about the great work and creativity put into this year’s contest by officers. “This story is more about the incredible innovation and talent that our officers bring to the table when looking for ways to make Arlington better,” said Chief Johnson.

The one-minute jingle can be viewed on the department’s YouTube channel by clicking the following link: http://youtu.be/wfETDBhtVTc

The jingle features Arlington Police Sgt. Ray Polk along with Rebecca’s dad, William Florance. “It was extra special that my dad was able to be in the video that ended up being the winning jingle,” said Officer Hyder.

Chief Johnson will be updating his Twitter account on Christmas Day @ArlingtonChief with highlights of the shift.
