DATE: Friday, December 26, 2014
TIME: 8:00PM
LOCATION: 9400 block of Whittier Boulevard, Pico Rivera
VICTIM: D.B.A. “Mr. Bulldog”
SUSPECT: #1 Male-Hispanic, Juvenile
#2 Jonathan Mora, 18
#3 Female-Hispanic, Juvenile
UNIT: LASD Pico Rivera Station
NARRATIVE:
On December 24, 2014, at approximately 1:58 PM, deputies responded to “Mr. Bulldog” pet store, located in the 9400 block of Whittier Boulevard, Pico Rivera, regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred. Preliminary information indicated one male adult had robbed the owner at gun point. The suspect obtained approximately $500.00 in U.S. currency and two 10-week-old English Bulldog puppies, valued at $2,500.00 each. The suspect fled the location and drove away in a grey BMW sedan driven by an unknown accomplice.
Media coverage of the incident fanned public interest, which led to a crime tip about the robbery. As a result, Pico Rivera Station Detectives were called in on Christmas Day. They worked unremittingly on every lead in order to identify the suspects. Their efforts led to the execution of a search warrant on Christmas night at a residence in West Whittier. The warrant resulted in the arrest of the primary robbery suspect, who was a juvenile.
On December 26, 2014, the detectives’ investigation led to the identification of the driver of the grey BMW and the identification of an additional accomplice. Suspect #2 Jonathan Mora (driver), 18-years-old from Whittier, voluntarily turned himself in to detectives at the Pico Rivera Station. He was subsequently arrested for robbery and booked at the Pico Rivera Station. He is currently being held on $50,000 bail.
Additional warrants ultimately led to the arrest of a third suspect, a female-juvenile from West Whittier.
Both Bulldogs puppies were recovered, unharmed, during the investigation: One Bulldog puppy was found by a West Whittier resident on Christmas Day, after the puppy was found wandering in the street near her residence. The second Bulldog puppy was returned to “Mr. Bulldog” store by an unidentified person on December 26, 2014.
