Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a local man arrested for violations of a protection order receives additional charges.

BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a local man arrested for violations of a protection order receives additional charges.

Kevin Randolph McClendon (56) with no permanent residence, and providing a Post Office Box in Morley, has been charged with the Class C Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, the Class D Felony of Resisting Arrest, and the Class A Misdemeanor of Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sheriff Walter states that on Sunday, December 28th, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Senior Deputy Matt Scroggins made contact with McClendon at a business located on Highway 61 in Morley.

Deputy Scroggins advised McClendon he was being arrested for violations of an adult protection order issued by the Scott County Associate Circuit Court. McClendon informed the deputy that he wanted to leave his vehicle at the business and his jacket inside the vehicle. McClendon pulled a black container from the jacket pocket and opened it. Deputy Scroggins observed a plastic baggie containing a crystal like substance inside the container and ordered McClendon to surrender it. McClendon first backed away and then turned to walk away, dropping the clear plastic baggie. Deputy Scroggins grabbed McClendon’s left arm and ordered him to get on the ground. McClendon did not comply. He was again ordered to the ground. McClendon continued to resist by backing away, and ignoring the commands of the deputy. McClendon was forced to the ground to affect his arrest. The clear plastic baggie was then recovered from under McClendon’s feet.

After being handcuffed, McClendon volunteered there was a glass pipe in the vehicle. A glass pipe with a burnt substance was located in the driver’s side door. Both the glass pipe and the clear plastic baggie field tested positive for methamphetamine. McClendon was transported to the Scott County Jail.

Sheriff Walter commends Senior Deputy Scroggins on the arrest. The sheriff asks that anyone who has further information regarding other criminal activity concerning McClendon, or any other crimes to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 545-3525, or leave a message on the crime tip line at 1-866-210-4322.

McClendon remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond was set by the court at $2,500.00 cash only.
