So Cal Winter Storm Warning (Tues-Thurs)
Summary:
The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a winter storm warning above 2000 feet for heavy snow and gusty winds from 4pm Tuesday to 10 pm Wednesday. A very cold storm originating from Canada will move across southern California late Tuesday through Wednesday. Snow levels will fall rapidly Tuesday evening and into the overnight hours, reaching 2000 feet and lower. This should bring snow to the High Desert floor in Apple and Lucerne Valley as well as Yucaipa and Beaumont.
Snow Levels / Accumulations:
Falling from 4500 feet to between 2000-2500 feet overnight.
1-4” above 2000 feet
2-7” in the High Desert
6-12” in the San Bernardino Mountains; up to 15 inches in the higher peaks.
6-12” in the Riverside and San Diego county mountains.
Temperatures:
Very cold Tuesday and Wednesday nights with temperatures bottoming out in the teens in the High Desert and in the single digits in the Mountains. Wind chill values may fall below zero at times in the mountains.
Winds:
High Deserts/Northern Mountains; 20 to 30 mph & gusts to 60 mph through passes and over ridges.
Precautionary/Preparedness actions:
The Districts Safety Officer will be closely monitoring the system and can be reached at 909-772-4249. Schools and M&O should check for issues related to the storm such as frozen/burst pipes and drainage concerns. A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, extra clothes, blankets and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
Storm related issues should be immediately reported to the EOC (909-381-1192) and M&O (909-388-6100) or after hours to School Police (909-388-6130) who will notify the Safety Officer.
