On 12/31/2014 just before 4:30 am, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Cameron Memorial Hospital Emergency Room for a complaint of a sexual assault that had occurred at a residence near the intersection of CR 300 N and CR 100 E in Steuben County’s rural Pleasant Township. After gathering some initial information, Sheriff’s detectives were called to assist in the investigation. Through investigative efforts, the suspect was identified as 54 year old Frank E. Stetler of Angola. The initial investigation revealed that Stetler allegedly bound the female victim before assaulting her. The victim was able to get away and went to the hospital where the authorities were notified. Stetler later turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office and was taken into custody following an interview with Sheriff’s detectives. Stetler was booked into the Steuben County Jail on one count of rape a level 1 felony, one count of criminal confinement a level 3 felony, and one count of strangulation a level 6 felony. He remains held without bond pending an initial court appearance. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by Angola Police, Ashley Police, Fremont Police, LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office, Steuben County Communications, and Cameron Memorial Hospital.
