Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports one man in custody on a felony traffic charge.
BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports one man in custody on a felony traffic charge.
Curtis Lee Winchester (31) of 929 St. Charles Avenue, St. Charles, Missouri has been charged with the Class D Felony of Driving While Revoked.
Sheriff Walter states that on Saturday, January 3rd, at approximately 6:17 a.m., Deputy Zac Harris responded to a residence on U.S. Highway 61 in Scott County concerning an unknown man walking around on the caller’s property.
Deputy Harris made contact with the subject on the property and identified him as Winchester. A check of Winchester’s driving status indicated he was revoked. There was a vehicle parked in the driveway to the residence. Winchester told the deputy that the vehicle’s owner had driven the vehicle there and he was a passenger. He stated they had stopped to get a Wi-Fi signal and that the keys had been lost while they were out walking around. Winchester said that he was looking for the keys, and the driver had departed on foot.
Deputy Harris made contact with the vehicle’s owner. That person told the deputy that the vehicle had been loaned to Winchester in St. Charles and that Winchester was supposed to return it the next day.
Winchester was arrested. He was advised of his rights and admitted to Deputy Harris that he had in fact been driving the vehicle.
Sheriff Walter commends Deputy Harris on the arrest. The Sheriff asks that anyone who has further information regarding this incident, or any other crimes to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 545-3525, or leave a message on the crime tip line at 1-866-210-4322.
Winchester remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond was set by the court at $750.00 cash only.
