RE: Unlawful residential entry leads to pursuit, accident, and arrest

Early Saturday morning January 3, 2015 at 1:12 a.m., Warsaw Police responded to a Market Street address for a subject breaking into the occupied residence. The victim advised that her ex-husband kicked in the front door and battered her in front of their two young children. Upon police arrival, the suspect had left in a vehicle and the victim told police that it appeared her ex-husband was extremely intoxicated. Warsaw Police issued an attempt to locate on the suspect and his vehicle.
At approximately, 1:24 a.m. a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputy located the suspect vehicle near US30 and County Road 250 East. The deputy attempted a traffic stop but the suspect vehicle fled westbound on US30 at high speeds. A pursuit ensued on US30 reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour. Additional police units safely deployed tire deflation devices near US30 and State Road 15. The vehicle continued westbound until a tire began to shred near Fox Farm Road. The suspect vehicle stopped for a brief moment and then took off again northbound on Fox Farm Road again at high speeds. At the T-intersection of Fox Farm Road and County Road 300 North, the vehicle lost control, struck a tree, and collided with the first pursuing Winona Lake Police vehicle.
Neither the suspect nor the Winona Lake officer were injured, but the suspect was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital by MTEMS to be medically cleared and for alcohol testing. Once cleared, the suspect was transported to the Kosciusko County Jail.
Ryan Paul Nicholas Rautenberg, 27 years old, of Warsaw, was initially booked in on felony charges of fleeing/resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated. Additional charges of felony residential entry by force and felony domestic battery in the presence of minor children are pending. He is being held on a $2,000 surety bond.
