New Year's MEP Final Report Stats: 1,158 DUI Arrests & 28 Killed Statewide. 236 DUI's and Six Killed in LA County.

The 2015 New Year's Holiday Maximum Enforcement Period, began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, and continued through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015.

During the Maximum Enforcement Period, all available CHP Officers were on patrol. Their aim was to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our roadways over the holiday weekend.

During the 2015 New Year's Holiday MEP, 28 people were killed in collisions statewide; more than double the amount from last year. 1, 158 DUI arrests were made by CHP officers statewide, almost triple the amount from last year. In Los Angeles County alone, six people were killed and 236 DUI arrests were made.

During last year’s New Year’s MEP, 14 people were killed in collisions statewide. In addition, CHP officers arrested more than 450 people for driving under the influence throughout the 30-hour traffic safety effort. Within Los Angeles County, one person was killed and 104 DUI arrests were made.

Please note that 2015's MEP contained three more 24 hour periods compared to 2014.

Statewide fatalities include all deaths occurring throughout California regardless of what agency investigated the collision. DUI arrest numbers are those made only by CHP.

CHP’s goal every year is to reduce the amount of roadway deaths. CHP strives to educate our motoring public about the fact that the use of safety belts saves lives, and driving under the influence is never a good idea. The results can be deadly.
