The New Light Baptist Church and Church on the Green have joined Mayor Venezia, Human Services and the County Code Blue Initiative to assist the homeless when temperatures drop below 15 degrees. Today, 1/7/15 the New Light Baptist Church will open their doors as a daytime warming center if needed from 8:30a.m. to 6:15 p.m. If you see a homeless individual who needs shelter during the day, please contact the Bloomfield Police at 973-680-4141 or Bloomfield Human Services at 973-680-4017 who will contact New Light Baptist Church to open. The Recreation Department will go to the church and pick up individuals who want to go to the MESH café at 6:15 pm and to the overnight respite from the church. Tomorrow 1/8/15, Church on the Green will open from 8am to 6pm to provide a daytime warming center. Transportation will be provided to MESH café from there. Please inform anyone who you think might benefit from this or reach out to the Bloomfield Police or Bloomfield Human Services , who will do an outreach.

We will be continuing to look at ways to respond to the needs of our the homeless in a coordinated and compassionate manner throughout these chilly months.
