WINHALL POLICE & RESCUE PRESS RELEASE
On January 8, 2015 the Winhall Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen regarding suspicious behavior on Upper Taylor Hill in Winhall. The citizen reported that on December 30, 2014 she saw a middle aged white man operating a red sedan with a VT registration pull into her driveway. The man got out of the car and enter her attached garage for a short time before leaving the area. After the man left the area the elderly home owner saw that a package recently dropped off by UPS had been opened and that items within her mailbox, left for the mailman had been taken. The homeowner also reported seeing the same vehicle at the top of her driveway on January 7, 2015.
There have been many cases across the country of packages being stolen from porches and outside homes after being delivered by UPS and Fed Ex. Residents should take steps to protect themselves from this type of activity. Suggestions include having a friend or family member pick up packages when you are away from home or have the package delivered to places of business.
We also urge everyone to report suspicious behavior immediately to police so that we can investigate and crack down on these types of property crimes.
If you have witnessed incidents such as this or have any information regarding suspicious behavior you can always contact the Winhall PD at (802)297-2121.
