Hot Prowl Residential Burglary Suspect Caught in South Pasadena. PHOTO

On Saturday, January 10, 2015, at approximately 12:30 A.M., a resident in the 700 block of Monterey Road, in South Pasadena, called the police to report someone breaking into her residence. The homeowner had locked herself in the basement while her 94 year old grandmother was asleep in the residence above her.

Officers responded and began searching the residence. While searching the residence the officers were able to safely escort the resident from her house to safety. As officers went outside to the backyard of the property they immediately came in contact with the suspect and a foot pursuit ensued.

The suspect ran from the property across Monterey Road and disappeared into the neighborhood while responding officers were delayed chasing the suspect due to a passing train.

A containment was immediately established and assistance was requested from neighboring police agencies. Approximately 30 police officers responded from the San Marino Police Department, Alhambra Police Department, Pasadena Police Department, and Monterey Park Police Department including two helicopters from the Pasadena and Pomona Police Departments and two K9's from the Alhambra and Monterey Park Police Departments.

As a systematic search of the neighborhood was being conducted, several residents inside the containment reported the suspect running, jumping and hiding on several different properties to avoid capture by the police.

After an extensive hour and a half search for the suspect, he was finally captured and arrested without incident, as he ran from the police officers in the 800 block of Orange Grove Place.

The suspect was found in possession of burglary tools, stolen property, narcotics paraphernalia, and changed clothes in an attempt to evade capture. The suspect was identified as Micah Darrel Everett, a 22 year old resident of Los Angeles.

The investigation revealed Everett forced entry to a locked and enclosed sunroom to the main residence. Everett cut the widow screen of the sunroom door; forcibly removed the widow and unlocked the door, entering the sunroom. Everett then cut an additional window screen in an attempt to remove the window to the main residence but was unable to. Everett exited the sunroom and found his way to the attached garage to burglarize that as well. Everett abandoned his backpack prior to being chased by responding officers.

Everett is scheduled to be arraigned in Alhambra Superior Court on Monday, 1-12-15.
