Indecent Exposure Arrest

On January 10, 2015 at 2:00 a.m. Pleasanton Police Department received a call of a male suspect masturbating in the common area of the Las Ventanas apartment complex, 3819 Vineyard Avenue. The victim was walking her dog around the complex when she noticed the suspect walking toward her. The victim returned to her residence and as she looked back the suspect was standing facing her, near the side of her apartment. The male’s pants were down and he was masturbating. There was a similar report a week prior but in both incidents police were unable to locate the suspect.

On January 11, 2015, officers were in the area looking for the suspect. A male was walking across the street from the Las Ventanas apartment complex and was wearing clothing that matched the suspect’s description provided by witnesses. Officers contacted 22 year old Brian Barron of Pleasanton, who is currently on probation from a similar incident that occurred in 2011. Barron denied any involvement and had no explanation to why his zipper was down. Barron was identified by one of the victims and placed under citizen’s arrest. Barron was taken into custody and booked into Santa Rita Jail. Subsequent investigation revealed Barron is the suspect in both cases and is possibly involved in similar incidents that were not reported to the police.

The Pleasanton Police Department reminds residents to take the following precautionary measures when walking or jogging:

• Maintain awareness of your surroundings and pay close attention to others.
• Walk with a companion or a leashed dog.
• If ear buds or headphones must be used, use them only in one ear so surrounding sounds can still be heard.
• Always have a cell phone and carry an object such as keys or a walking stick to be used as a defensive weapon if necessary.
• Walk in well-traveled and lighted areas and know your surroundings.
• Tell a friend or loved one of your route and estimated time of return.
• If you believe you are being followed, do not hesitate calling police and go to a nearby business or well-traveled and lighted area. Suspects in these types of crimes generally like anonymity and are highly discouraged when their presence is noted and any attention is drawn to them.
