Attempted Car Jacking Averted-Police Search for Additional Victims
On January 11, 2015 at approximately 11:02 a.m., the Los Banos Police Department responded to the 600 Block of I Street to investigate a report of a physical fight.
Officer Richard Mancera arrived and was directed to 30-year-old Jose Jesus Dominguez of Stanislaus County, who was running from the area. Officer Mancera attempted to stop Dominguez, however he began to struggle with the Officer and was eventually handcuffed after Sergeant Elias Reyes arrived to assist.
After being placed under arrest Officers learned Dominguez approached a 53-year-old male parked in the 600 Block of I Street, and requested a ride from the area. The male refused and Dominguez attempted to pull the male from his car and steal his vehicle. A witness called 9-1-1 to report the crime, causing Dominguez to run to a second vehicle.
The second vehicle was occupied by a male and a young female child. Dominguez attempted to steal the second vehicle but the male fought back, causing Dominguez to run toward the passenger side of the vehicle. Dominguez removed the child from the car and attempted to run from the area, while holding the child.
Several witnesses came to the child’s aid and were able to free the child from Dominguez’ grasp. Dominguez ran to a third vehicle, which parked after the driver stopped to assist with the attempted kidnapping. Dominguez attempted to drive away from the area but was not able to operate the vehicles transmission. Dominguez approached a fourth car, who’s driver also stopped to assist, but was unable to start the vehicle. Dominguez ran from the fourth car and was confronted by Officer Mancera.
“It’s frightening to think what could have happened, but because of the witnesses who took the time to call 9-1-1, and the brave people who stopped to help, this man is now in jail. Unfortunately, the father who’s daughter was removed from the car, did not stay to provide a statement or his contact information to police. We would really like to speak with this individual so we can bring all Dominguez’ crimes forward in court.”
- Ray Reyna, Police Commander
Dominguez is currently in custody at the Merced Main Jail, pending $219,500.00 bail, charged with possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, attempted robbery, attempted car-jacking, attempted grand theft, and vehicle theft. A records check revealed Dominguez is currently on probation through Stanislaus County for vehicle theft.
