Indiana State Police Morgan County Troopers Complete Career Milestones

Master Trooper Doug Perry recently completed his 30th year of service to the citizens of the State of Indiana. A native of Marion County, Trooper Perry graduated from Warren Central High School in 1981. M/Trooper Perry graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in 1984 and was originally assigned to the Lowell District. Perry then transferred to the Putnamville District in 1987 where he has primarily patrolled Morgan County ever since.

M/Trooper Perry has held numerous assignments during his 30 year career including the Vehicle Crimes Unit, FBI Investigations and the Tactical Intervention Platoon (Riot Squad). M/Trooper Perry had previously been certified as a Technical Crash Investigator, a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (DUI) instructor, an Applicant Background Investigator and is currently certified as an Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS) operator.

M/Trooper Perry has been married for 25 years and is the father of 6 children. He and his wife have been Foster Parents for approximately ten years and have fostered approximately 30 children. M/Trooper Perry’s ISP family includes a cousin, First Sergeant Bill Bronner, who retired from the Indianapolis District, and a Brother and Son who also served as Indiana State Police Employees.

Detective Brian Smith was raised in Marion County and graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1982. Detective Smith is currently continuing his education at Indiana University and Ivy Tech. Detective Smith was appointed as an Indiana State Trooper in November of 1989 and was originally assigned to the Connersville District as a Road Trooper. Detective Smith transferred to the Putnamville Post in 1990 and in 1995 was promoted to the Criminal Investigation Division to serve as a Detective. When Morgan County was re-assigned to the Bloomington District, Detective Smith was assigned as a Detective to serve the Bloomington Post.

Detective Smith has previously served on several ISP Specialty Teams including the Tactical Intervention Platoon Team (Riot Squad) and as a Spotter on the Marijuana Eradication Team. Detective Smith has also served as a Firearms Instructor. Detective Smith was a founding member of the Child Advocacy Center, serving as a committee member of Susie’s Place from 2007-present. Detective Smith continues to work high profile cases, ranging from Corruption to Murder.

Detective Smith comes from a long history of ISP family, including his father, Detective Sergeant William H. Smith (Ret.), his Brother Major Todd Smith, his cousin First Sergeant Steve Hibler (Ret.) and his soon to be Son-In-Law, Trooper Riley Nungester.
