PRESS RELEASE: Serious Crash on US30 in Warsaw
The Warsaw Police Department and the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team are investigating a serious crash that occurred today at 1:02 p.m. on US30 at County Road 150 West. Emergency responders were dispatched to a crash on US30 between a pick-up truck and a semi tractor trailer. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a Red 2002 Ford Ranger pick-up partially under the rear of an eastbound semi trailer, belonging to CDN Logistics, Inc. Emergency personnel worked to extricate the driver of the pick-up who was seriously injured and unresponsive. Lutheran Air Ambulance landed in the westbound lanes of US30 and flew the driver to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. The driver of the semi tractor, Gennadiy Trushov, 47 years of age, of Port Matilda, Pennsylvania was not injured. Trushov stated that he was stopped behind a line of traffic, for a red traffic signal, when he felt the impact to the rear of his trailer. The preliminary investigation indicates that the pick-up truck did not brake before impact and struck the rear of the semi at highway speeds. The eastbound lanes of US30 were closed for about an hour and a half while crews freed the driver, investigated the crash, and cleaned up the scene. The westbound lanes of US were closed for approximately 15 minutes as the helicopter landed at the scene. As part of the investigation, the semi driver was transported by police to Kosciusko Community Hospital for a blood draw. The identity of the pick-up driver is unknown at this time and police can not provide an update on his condition. Warsaw Police were assisted at the scene by: Kosciusko FACT, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, Multi-Township EMS, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Indiana Department of Transportation, Reichert-Knepp Towing, and Crouse Towing.
