Bloomington - Just before 10:30 this morning, while patrolling State Road 37 just north of the SR45/46 Bypass, Master Trooper Todd Durnil checked the speed of a yellow Chevrolet Cobalt traveling northbound at 89 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Once M/Trooper Durnil activated his emergency lights and sirens to make the traffic stop, the driver of the Cobalt quickly turned onto Acuff Road and proceeded eastbound.
The pursuit ended on Tunnel Road near Lake Lemon, where the driver left the Chevy Cobalt at a dead end. M/Trooper Durnil and Indiana Conservation Officer Kerry Griffith were able to provide a description of the driver as he fled the scene.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Bloomington Police Department K9 were also called to the scene to assist.
An inventory of the vehicle produced an Identification Card that was issued to and matched the description of the suspect driver as given by the pursuing officers. The driver has been identified as Tyler S Verhines, 23 of Bedford. Verhines was also found to be Wanted on Warrant on a previous charge of Resisting Law Enforcement in Lawrence County.
The investigation will be forwarded to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for their review. Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts Tyler Verhines is asked to call the Indiana State Police at the Bloomington Post at (812) 332-4411.
