The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Marcus Prynston Haire, 34 years of age of Raeford, North Carolina for Driving While License Revoked (Impaired Revocation Based), Driving While Impaired, Failure To Report an Accident and Hit and Run.
On Monday January 19, 2015, at approximately 8:10 pm, the Southern Pines Police Department responded to the 800 block of West New York Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident in which one vehicle had fled the scene. Investigating officers located the fleeing vehicle on Morganton Road in Southern Pines. Marcus Prynston Haire was found to be operating the fleeing vehicle, a 2006 Dodge Durango which was unregistered and uninsured.
Marcus Prynston Hair had been convicted of Driving While Impaired on October 1, 2014 and his operator’s license had been revoked in addition to being placed on probation for this offense. Under these circumstances, North Carolina General Statute permits the seizure of the vehicle being operated. The 2006 Dodge Durango was seized and will be subject to further disposition by the court.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, twenty eight (28) people a day die as a result of “drunk driving” accidents. The Southern Pines Police Department remains committed to reducing the number of alcohol related traffic fatalities and will continue to do so through proactive community policing and countermeasure enforcement programs focused on alcohol and drug impaired traffic offenders.
Marcus Prynston Haire appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Facility under a $5,000.00 secured bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court.
