Announces Arrests For:
Common Law Robbery, Larceny of a Firearm, Violation of Probation, Delivery of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Sale of Marijuana, Breaking or Entering to a Motor Vehicle (2 counts), Larceny from a Motor Vehicle
The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Thomas Anthony Wright, 31 years of age, from Southern Pines, North Carolina on the above listed charges. On January 23, 2015, Southern Pines Police Officers from the Patrol and Investigation Divisions were conducting an investigation into vehicles that have been broken into with purses or medication being stolen. Officers observed Thomas Anthony Wright hiding in several bushes located in the 200 block of SW Broad Street. Thomas Anthony Wright fled on foot as officers approached him. Following a foot pursuit, where Thomas Anthony Wright discarded a BB gun he was placed into custody. Stolen property from a recent vehicle breaking and entering was recovered. Thomas Anthony Wright also had outstanding warrants for his arrest related to a 2014 robbery of a firearm, a 2014 narcotics investigation and an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.
Additionally, arrested during this investigation was a sixteen year old juvenile from Southern Pines, North Carolina who was also located in the 200 block of SW Broad Street. This sixteen year old juvenile was charged as an adult for Larceny, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Stolen Property. A bicycle which was reported stolen was recovered.
Thomas Anthony Wright appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and is incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Facility under a $74,000 secure bond and $2,902 cash bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court on February 10, 2015.
The sixteen year old juvenile also appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Facility under a $10,000 secure bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court on February 10, 2015.
