Thanks to the combined efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, a 35 year old resident of Tipton, MI was arrested at his residence on Saturday, Jan. 24 in connection to recent UPS packages stolen from Huron Township porches.

According to Huron Township Police Chief Everette Robbins, the department received three reports of missing UPS packages on Friday, Jan. 23.

All complaints were similar in nature and witnesses reported that a white male driving a white vehicle was stealing UPS packages from porches after an official UPS delivery was made.

All three reports happened in the Claremont Subdivision located off Will-Carleton Road.

Robbins said that based on witness statements and images captured on surveillance cameras, a potential suspect was identified.

Officers with the Huron Township Police Department, along with officers and agents from the Western Wayne Community Resource Team, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce worked into the night on Friday and into the early morning hours of Saturday to identify and locate the suspect.

Following his arrest, the suspect was identified as a current part-time delivery employee with UPS.

According to Robbins, all of the stolen items from yesterday’s incidents were recovered.

“The residents of the Claremont Subdivision should be proud of their efforts together as well. The pulled together when it was needed the most. If we continue to work together and get better at it as we go, the sky is the limit to what we can do together as a community,” said Robbins.

Robbins thanked the assisting law enforcement agencies, and noted that the Huron Township Police Department currently has a detective assigned to the Western Wayne Criminal Investigative Team.

“The Western Wayne Criminal Investigative Team has once again proved to be a valuable resource for our community. Their quick response was crucial, not only to the arrest of this individual, but also essential to the recovery of the stolen property.”

“Our goal is to continue to prove to our residents that we will use all of the necessary resources available to us to provide the quality service our residents deserve. We hope to prove that to those that choose to come into our community and commit crimes as well,” said Robbins.

There is still a possibility that the arrested suspect has committed crimes like these in other communities. The investigation is ongoing, and charges will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney for further review.
