Severe winter storm 1/26/15 - 1/27/15
A blizzard warning has been issued from 12pm on Monday 1/26/15 until 6pm on Tuesday 1/27/15.
A major winter storm is expected to impact our area Monday into Tuesday. Light snow may affect the region tonight, with the storm intensifying into a Nor’easter late Monday.
Light snow is expected to begin around daybreak Monday with some impact to the morning commute. The snow is expected to become heavy at times late Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning before tapering off during the afternoon. The brunt of the storm looks to occur Monday night through early Tuesday afternoon, where snowfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour are anticipated.
Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. If you do not have to travel, stay indoors. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you and make sure your cell phone is fully charged. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
For the safety of our plow-truck operators, please remove all parked vehicles from the roadway PRIOR to snowfall accumulation. Additionally, move all property (such as basketball hoops, garbage cans, etc) from the roadway.
We will continue to monitor the storm as it develops. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter (@SurfCityPD) for up-to-date information.
