MAYOR AMATO WOULD LIKE TO UPDATE RESIDENTS ON THE LATEST INFORMATION FROM THE TOWNSHIP OF BERKELEY AND THE LATEST FORECAST FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
THE BLIZZARD WARNING AND NOW COASTAL FLOOD WATCH WILL BE IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST TUESDAY, JANUARY 27TH.
* HAZARD TYPES, HEAVY SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS CAUSING CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS, 18 TO 24 INCHES.
EXPECTED TO BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY MORNING BEFORE TAPERING OFF DURING TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE BRUNT OF THE STORM LOOKS TO OCCUR MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY AFTERNOON, WHERE SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 4 INCHES PER HOUR ARE ANTICIPATED.
IMPACTS, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TRAVEL DUE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL AND STRONG WINDS, RESULTING IN WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. SECONDARY AND TERTIARY ROADS MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE.
STRONG WINDS MAY DOWN POWER LINES AND TREE LIMBS.
WINDS, NORTHEAST 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH MONDAY, THEN BECOMING NORTH 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS 40 TO 50 MPH MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY WITH THE HIGHEST GUSTS CLOSER TO THE COAST.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A BLIZZARD WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED. FALLING AND BLOWING
SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND POOR VISIBILITIES ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS,
MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. DO NOT TRAVEL. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL, HAVE A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT WITH YOU AND MAKE SURE YOUR CELL PHONE IS FULLY CHARGED. IF YOU GET STRANDED, STAY WITH YOUR CAR.
COASTAL FLOODING, MODERATE FLOODING IS ANTICIPATED AROUND THE TIME OF TONIGHTS HIGH TIDE.
IMPACTS, NUMEROUS ROADWAYS WILL FLOOD AND MINOR TO MODERATE PROPERTY DAMAGE IS LIKELY. THE TIDES AND WAVE ACTION WILL RESULT IN MODERATE TO SEVERE BEACH EROSION.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Please make sure you have the supplies and medications you will need over next few days. Check on your neighbors, including the elderly. If you have to venture out during the snow, remove all snow from your car, especially the hood of your vehicle, before driving.
SCHOOL DISTRICTS:
The Central Regional and Berkeley Township School Districts will be CLOSED, tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th.
SANITATION AND RECYCLING:
Due to blizzard, garbage and recycling pick up for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th has been suspended. Garbage and recycling for these areas will be collected on Saturday, January 31st. We regret this inconvenience.
DIVISION OF STREETS AND ROADS:
Sanding, salting and snow plowing procedures have begun. Berkeley Township has nearly 180 miles of municipally owned roadways and close to 300 cul-de-sacs. Depending on the volume of snow, will determine how quickly ALL roads will be cleared. During blizzard type snow volume, as expected during the overnight, Township employees and our contractors can usually clear ALL roadways in 24-30 hours. DIVISION OF POLICE:
Temporary Parking Prohibition for Snow Plowing IS NOW IN EFFECT. Please remove all vehicles from the roadways, as snow plowing will commence during the overnight. Police non-emergency phone: 732-341-6600.
OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:

POWER OUTAGES:
If a power outage occurs call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the âReport Outageâ link on: www.firstenergycorp.com via smart phone. In the event of downed utility wires, you should immediately report them to JCP&L at the number above and the Berkeley Township Police Department at 732-341-6600. Residents should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
All Township First Aid Squads and Fire Companies have been alerted and will station at their locations.
