Winter Storm "Juno"
Blizzard warning still in effect until 6pm tomorrow night. Predicted snow accumulations anywhere from 3 inches to 24 inches for our area. Strong winds gusting up to 45 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow. Visibility will be impacted and travel delays are expected. A State of Emergency has been issued by Governor Christie – so please, if you do not have to travel stay off of the roads.
Additionally, a coastal flood advisory is in effect from 11pm this evening until 7am Tuesday. Coastal flooding anticipated during tonight’s high bay tide. Expect flooding in low-lying areas (by now, we are sure many of you are aware of the trouble spots on Barnegat Avenue, as well as the bayside street ends). Also, DO NOT drive vehicles through flood water, as water may be deeper than appears; you WILL damage your vehicle and you put yourself as well as our responding officers’ safety in jeopardy.
Lastly, with heavy snow expected to begin falling during the evening hours until tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, we urge residents to prepare now. Secure any loose property which could blow away due to high winds (I.e. garbage cans, patio furniture). In addition, remove any parked vehicles (including trailers) from the streets to allow for plow operations.
We will continue to monitor the storm and report updates as they come in. For information, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter (@SurfCityPD).
