NARRATIVE:

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Century Station detectives are investigating the non-fatal shooting of a nurse at the Mental Health Urgent Care Center, which is a private medical facility also known as, Exodus Foundation for Recovery Integrated Clinic.  The incident occurred on Monday, January 26, 2015 at approximately 12:15 PM.

Century Station deputies responded to the care center regarding a “man with a gun” call.  Upon arrival, deputies were directed to a second floor office where they discovered a male nurse with a gunshot wound and security guards detaining another male adult, who was later identified as the suspect in the shooting.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was at the mental health center for evaluation.  During the assessment, a nurse discovered that the suspect was possibly armed with a concealed handgun.  Private security guards assigned to the care center were summoned, and after making contact with the suspect, a struggle ensued between the suspect, two unarmed security guards and a male adult nurse.  During the struggle a weapon was discharged, striking the male nurse in the upper left thigh area. 

The suspect was subdued by security, and detained until deputies arrived.  The shooting victim was treated at the scene for a non-life-threatening injury, and transported to a local hospital for additional treatment.  He is currently listed in stable condition. 

The suspect was taken into custody and booked at Century Regional Detention Facility for Assault With a Deadly Weapon and various related charges.  He is being held in lieu of $120,000 bail.  The handgun used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.  One round was fired from the weapon, and there are no additional victims or suspects.  

The investigation is ongoing.
