Traffic Stop for Expired Vehicle Registration Leads to Arrest
Jason L. Ahl, 44, of Cannelton, was arrested January 31, 2015. Ahl was stopped by Patrolman Ryan M. Smith for expired registration on the vehicle he was operating. While conducting the traffic stop, Ahl gave Smith consent to search the vehicle. While conducting the search Smith found a glass pipe typically used to smoke illegal narcotics. Residue in the pipe was found to be methamphetamine.
As a result, Ahl was arrested and transported to the Perry County Detention Center. Ahl was incarcerated on the following charges:
- Possession of a Smoking Instrument, a Level 6 Felony, 1 Count, and
- Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony, 1 Count.
Ahl was also cited for the following traffic violations:
- Driving While Suspended-Infraction,
- Expired Vehicle Registration,
- False or Fictitious Registration, and
- Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Responsibility.
