Full Notification

Shortly after noon on February 3, 2015, Clay Area Emergency Services Communications Center received a 911 telephone call where the caller reported that an individual had been hurt in an accident involving a skid loader. Emergency services were dispatched to the incident, which occurred in the ten block of High Street in Vermillion. Upon arrival, first responders found the subject to have been severely injured and initiated life-saving efforts. The victim, 55 year-old Michael Shedd, of rural Elk Point, SD, was transported by ambulance to Sanford Vermillion Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Initial investigation indicates that Mr. Shedd had been accidentally struck by the skid loader, which was being used to move snow. No criminal charges are expected.
