DUI driver who was fleeing from officers involved in a roll-over collision
On February 12, 2015, at approximately 2:50 am, Campbell Police Officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle ran a red light and collided with an uninvolved motorist.
The pursuit started when Officers attempted to stop a suspected DUI driver on Bascom Avenue and Campbell Avenue. The vehicle, a Honda, initially pulled over and then accelerated away, turning down Dry Creek Road. The vehicle was then pursued southbound on Union Avenue where it ran a red light at Camden Avenue and collided with an SUV. The collision caused the SUV to roll over on its roof.
The sole occupant of the SUV was able to get out of the vehicle with help from officers. The passenger of the Honda remained at the scene. Both the driver of the SUV and the passenger of the Honda were transported to Valley Medical Center as a precautionary measure and were later released with minor injuries.
The driver of the Honda got out of the vehicle after the collision and fled on foot. Officers were able to locate him a short time later hiding behind the Cambrian Plaza Shopping Center. He was identified as a 29 year old male from San Jose who had a felony warrant out for his arrest and was on felony probation for drug and auto theft charges. He was transported to Valley Medical Center for minor injuries. Upon release, he will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on several felonies including: evading, hit and run, and DUI.
Since the collision occurred in San Jose Police Department Jurisdiction, they responded and took over the collision portion of the investigation.
