Vehicle Burglary Suspect Arrested
On 2/12/15 at 10:40 am an alert citizen saw a male acting suspiciously as he was walking away from several vehicles that were parked behind a business at 3015 Hopyard Road. The witness realized that the vehicle that was parked next to hers had a smashed window and she immediately called the police. She provided a detailed description of the subject and his direction of travel. Approximately an hour later officers saw a subject who matched the description walking on Stoneridge Drive near I-680. The subject tried to hide in roadside shrubbery but was detained and found to be in possession of some of the property from the vehicle that was burglarized. He was also identified by the original witness, who after she reported the original crime, found her vehicle was also burglarized.
The suspect was identified as 41 year old Derrick Dewayne Fields from Dublin/Oakland. He has a known history of theft related offenses and was booked in jail for charges including burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and violation of probation.
The apprehension of this suspect would not have been possible without an alert citizen who immediately recognized and reported suspicious behavior to the police department. The community is reminded to protect their property and help reduce crime by not leaving anything of value visible in their vehicles and calling the police when suspicious behavior is witnessed.
Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to call the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5100.
