From: Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Cass County Office of Emergency Management
On February 14, 2015, Cass County, Michigan received several inches of new snow, combined with intense winds of 40 to 50 mph, the blowing and drifting snow conditions have caused roadways to become extremely hazardous and in some cases impassible.
As a result of this situation, the following conditions exist: whiteout conditions, vehicle road slide offs accidents, multi-vehicle pile-ups on county roads and state highways, and vehicles stuck in roadways making several roads impassable. Cass County Road Commission snowplows have been pulled off the roads due to the hazardous condition; state highway plows are unable to keep up with the extremely hazardous and dangerous conditions.
All residents are being directed to stay off of the roads at this time.
Weather conditions have caused a direct threat to life and property for not only the residences, but responders and public works agencies as well.
This Local Snow Emergency will be lifted once conditions return to a manageable level.
