MAYOR AMATO WOULD LIKE TO ADVISE RESIDENTS THAT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL ADVISORY AND A WINTER STORM WATCH FOR OUR AREA.

THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM EST MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH, AND THE WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

DANGEROUS COLD FOLLOWED BY THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATING SNOW MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...5 TO 8 INCHES POSSIBLE.

WIND CHILL VALUES...AS LOW AS 15 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO.

TIMING...THE LOWEST WIND CHILL VALUES WILL OCCUR LATER TONIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY MORNING. SNOW SHOULD OVERSPREAD THE AREA MONDAY EVENING BEFORE TAPERING OFF AROUND MIDDAY TUESDAY. THERE COULD BE A PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW.

TEMPERATURES...DROPPING TO 1 BELOW TO 4 ABOVE ZERO THROUGH EARLY MONDAY MORNING.

WIND...NORTHWEST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

IMPACTS...THE DANGEROUSLY COLD CONDITIONS MAY LEAD TO FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. AN ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY COULD RESULT IN HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS.

VISIBILITIES...REDUCED TO ONE HALF MILE OR LESS AT TIMES MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY MORNING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND BRISK WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA MAY OCCUR IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS, MAKE SURE TO DRESS IN LAYERS AND COVER EXPOSED SKIN.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.

TEMPORARY PARKING PROHIBITED FOR SNOW PLOWING AND REMOVAL.

Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets and highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on the streets or highways or portions thereof indicated. The parking prohibitions listed below shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased, until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in violation shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the safe and proper regulation of traffic and any Police Officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and storage, which may result from such removal before regaining possession of the vehicle.

If a power outage occurs as a result of the severe weather, customers should call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on: www.firstenergycorp.com via smartphone.

In the event of downed utility wires, you should immediately report them to JCP&L at the number above or the Berkeley Township Police Department at 732-341-6600.

Residents should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
