COLD WEATHER WARNING ALERT – LAKE LURE
Wednesday night through Saturday we are expecting dangerously low temperatures, with wind chills as low as -7 degrees. Snow showers are expected periodically with freezing rain. It is best to stay indoors during this time as roads may ice over. There may be power outages due to downed power lines.
If you have an emergency dial 9 1 1. For questions or assistance you may call the Lake Lure Fire Department at 828-625-9333. The Lake Lure Fire Department will remain open continuously for shelter if needed.
The Lake Lure Emergency Management would like to remind you of key safety hints for extreme cold conditions.
• If you must go outside – wear layers of clothing
• If you have concerns about frozen water pipes, leave your water dripping
• Watch for hypothermia and frostbite
• Brings pets indoors
• Avoid driving on snow covered roads. If traveling is necessary keep a disaster supply kit in your vehicle
• During a power outage – never use a generator indoors, in a basement or crawlspace. Only use heaters approved for indoor use
• Make sure your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order
• Use flashlights, not candles
• Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible
• Unplug TV’s, computers, etc. to avoid damage during power surges
