Bloomington – Earlier this week, Superintendent Doug Carter announced the promotion of Chris Fears to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Fears will be serving as the Investigative Squad Leader for the Bloomington Field Investigations. Fears’ new duties will include evaluating and counseling squad members, reviewing and making case assignments and maintaining liaison with other law enforcement agencies throughout the Bloomington District.
A 1987 graduate of Edgewood High School, Sergeant Fears earned his Law Enforcement Associates Degree from Vincennes University and continued his education at Ball State University. He was a member of the 56th ISP Recruit School Class, graduating in December of 1998. Sergeant Fears was originally assigned to the Lowell Post, and then transferred to Bloomington in 2000. Fears has served in several roles over his 16 year ISP career, initially including patrolling Lawrence, Monroe and Owen Counties, then serving as a Detective for Bloomington Field Investigations for four years.
Fears had also previously served with the ISP Dive Team.
In 2010, Fears was promoted to Corporal where he served as the District Duty Officer, overseeing the daily operations at the Bloomington Post and the Troopers in the field. Sergeant Fears has loyally served as a Counselor at the ISP Respect for Law Camp for 13 years at Vincennes University during the summer months where he works with teenagers interested in Law Enforcement as a career.
Sergeant Fears, his wife Maria, his sons Bailey, Tyler and his daughter Lexi live in rural Owen County.
