Traffic Stop for Speeding Results in OWI and Marijuana Charges
Daviess County (Cannelburg): A Vincennes woman was arrested this afternoon for reasons beyond the infraction she was pulled over for.
At approximately 1:25 P.M., Senior Trooper Jarrod Lents and Trooper Samuel Gillespie were patrolling US 50 near County Road 900 East in Cannelburg, when they observed a silver 2000 Chevrolet Impala traveling at 78 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone. After pulling over the Chevrolet and speaking with the driver, Brittany Smith, 29, Vincennes, Troopers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed that Smith was in possession of marijuana. Troopers also learned that Smith had operated her vehicle under the influence of methamphetamine, marijuana, and opiates. Smith was placed into custody and lodged, without incident, in the Daviess County Jail.
The Indiana State Police remains committed to removing dangerous and impaired drivers from Indiana roadways. If a dangerous or reckless driver is observed, please dial 911 immediately.
