The Sanbornton Police Department has been getting calls about phone scams almost on a daily basis. The callers have been getting more inventive in their methods. I received a report today of a gentleman being told by the male caller, with an accent, that he was from the US Government and his social security number was involved in a tax fraud. Another report came in in which the caller referred to a Sanbornton Police Officer by name. Unfortunately, our website makes our names easy to find.

Just remember to never give out any personal information over the phone or internet. No government agency would ask for such things over the phone, and your credit card or medical insurance companies would already have that information. If you are contacted and believe it is a scam, it probably is. Give the police department a call and we will help you verify the scam.
