Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Sikeston area man in custody for a firearm related incident.
BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Sikeston area man in custody for a firearm related incident.
Timothy Jarvis (37) of 844 County Highway 529 has been charged with the crime of Unlawful Use of Weapon.
Sheriff Walter states that on Saturday, February 27th, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Sergeant Justin Wooten and Deputy Chelsea Gilmer went to an address in Oran to meet with a man and a woman concerning an incident that happened earlier in the evening. They told the deputies that Jarvis had been in an argument with the man while they were at a bar earlier in the evening. They stated that all went to the Jarvis residence so that they could pick up their juvenile son and leave. They stated that while doing so, Jarvis discharged one shot from a handgun into the ground near their son, and debris struck him in the ear. They stated the juvenile was not injured, but was scared.
The deputies then went to the Jarvis residence. Jarvis was not home, but someone there contacted him by phone and he arrived a short time later. Jarvis spoke with Sergeant Wooten and gave a similar, but different version of the incident.
Jarvis admitted the argument occurred at the bar. He stated it continued at the residence. The story differed on other points, but Jarvis did admit that he discharged the firearm. Jarvis voluntarily surrendered the pistol to Sergeant Wooten.
Sergeant Wooten examined the area and observed a hole in the ice with apparent copper fragments. Jarvis stated it was the location he fired the pistol.
Jarvis was arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail. He submitted to a chemical test of his breath. The test indicated a .111 blood alcohol content. Jarvis stated he was not intoxicated when he fired the gun, but returned to the bar after the event and began to consume alcohol.
Sheriff Walter asks that anyone who has further information on this matter to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 545-3525, or leave a message on the crime tip line at 1-866-210-4322.
Bond was set by the court at $250.00 cash only. Jarvis posted bond immediately after the issuance of the warrant by the court.
