PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF

February 23 – March 1, 2015

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations

and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Welfare Check:  A welfare check was requested by a family member after it was reported that the individual was threatening to harm themselves.  The family was unable to contact the individual by phone and did not know where the individual was living.  Officers made contact with the individual and the individual stated they just wanted someone to talk to. The individual also stated that they would not harm them self. 

VID:  A report of a small silver sedan halfway off the road between the scale house and MP 4 was called in.  Single occupant, no injuries and the driver was trying to shovel himself out.  An Officer responded but the vehicle was already out of the ditch.

Public Speaking/Appearance:  An Officer gave a Technology presentation at the Middle School.

Welfare Check:  An Attorney was talking with his client when the client stated he was having chest pain.  The attorney advised the client to call 911 and hung up.  An Officer spoke to the individual who refused medical treatment stating it was like a broken rib type of thing, not heart related.

Fraud: A report of Credit card fraud was received. The individual had contacted the Credit card Company and reported this is not the first time this has happened.

Fraud: A report of a recorded message calling about a summons and being arrested was received.  The person tried to call the number back but was prompted to leave a message.  Officers advised the caller to not give out any information about themselves, block the number and do not call it back.

Assault Simple: Caller reports someone yelling, banging and causing a disturbance.  Officers responded and arrested Dana Maria Freidin, DOB 01/20/61, of Valdez for Assault 4^th Degree and Disorderly Conduct.

Reckless Endangerment:   A report of a 6 month old baby being held instead of being in an infant car seat was reported.  An Officer responded and found the child in an approved car seat in the back and the seat was secured properly.  A warning was issued for seat belt requirements and proof of insurance.

Civil Standby:  Officers stood by for an individual to remove his belongings from former residence due to a domestic violence protective order.

Serve Time:  Christian Cyle McGee, DOB 07/12/79, of Valdez, checked in to the Valdez Jail to serve time, 15 days for violating conditions of release.

Disturbance Other:  A caller states his neighbor has been “flipping out” for hours, screaming and throwing things.  Officers responded and provided transportation to the hospital so the individual could speak to a counselor.

Public Speaking/Appearance:  An Officer gave an Internet safety presentation.

Child Abuse or Neglect:  Office of Children Services faxed a Protective Services Report to VPD after allegations of a child being sexually abused.  Case is currently under investigation.

Violate COR:  Upon returning from court Dana Maria Freidin, DOB 01/20/61, of Valdez Violated Conditions of release.

Animal Impound:  While on patrol an Officer found a German shepherd running in traffic.  The Officer picked up the dog and dropped it off at the animal shelter.

ETOH:  An intoxicated male walked into a business and took his friends welder and chainsaw and then left the premises.  The friend caught up with the subject and retrieved his items.  The intoxicated individual was headed down C dock.  Officers responded and all items were returned to owners.

Agency Assistance:  Matcom called requesting VPD contact someone from our charity list for a moose that was hit at MP 53 or 54 of the Richardson Hwy. A person was contacted and they retrieved the Moose.

Domestic NA:  A call was received for a Domestic disturbance. Officers responded and investigated, no arrest was made.

Traffic Complaint:  A caller reported a loader did not stop at the stop sign and almost t-boned a car. This is currently under investigation.

Welfare Check:  A caller reported receiving texts from a person using their name and then a female’s name.  The person seems confused and stated they were off their meds.  An Officer located the individual and he appeared to be fine.

Unattended Death:  A call was received requesting Officers for an unattended death.    Officers responded and confirmed the patient as reported.

Traffic Complaint:  A caller reported his neighbor waited until he had finished clearing the area around his truck of snow and parked directly behind his vehicle preventing him from leaving.   An Officer responded and contacted the neighbor who stated he would move his vehicle and would not do it again.

Information Report:  A person reported someone slashed her tire.  She heard air coming out of it and rushed over to the garage to have it repaired.   An Officer spoke with the person and went to the garage to investigate the tire.  This case is currently under investigation.

Reckless Endangerment:   Three small children in an unattended vehicle in front of the liquor store were reported.  An Officer responded but upon arrival at the scene there was no vehicle with small children in front of the liquor store.

911 Hang Ups:  Hang-up, no one picking up phone, goes to answering machine.  Dispatch left message.  An Officer responded to last known address and it was a collapsed trailer, full of snow and no lives there.

MVA- H & R:  A caller reports someone hit her vehicle while it was parked at the Middle School.  An Officer photographed the damage and requested a copy of the camera information if available.

Agency Assistance:  A caller reports his oil stove has exploded, no fire detected at this time.  Officers responded and the Fire Department responded.

Harassment:  A mother came to the Police Station to report bullying of her child at school and the social media.  This case is currently under investigation.

Animal Impound: A stray dog wondered into the store.  Officers impounded the animal and dropped it off at the Animal Shelter.

Traffic Hazard:  A DOT truck lost a large piece of metal and it is blocking the incoming lane.  Dispatch contacted DOT and an Officer responded to the area.  Upon arrival the Officer did not find any objects in the road.

Animal at Large: A report of a Small Poodle with collar and tags running loose by Simmons Trailer Park was received.   A second call reported the dog by the Rainbow Apartments.  An Officer drove around the area but the dog had left the area.

Hazard:  A caller reported rebar sticking up on the sidewalk on the northwest corner of Chenega & Egan.  An Officer responded and painted the rebar orange so it would be visible.

Stop FI: While on patrol an Officer stopped to talk with an individual at the Small Boat Harbor who was taking pictures of the Northern Lights.

Domestic NA:  A caller reported a roommate flipping out and trying to take his truck.  Officers responded and roommate left for the night to stay with friends, the others remained at the residence.  No arrest was made.

Fish & Game: A report of a large blood stain and moose head and parts was received.  An Officer responded to the area and found a head and leg, the Officer reported it to Trooper Beck.

Information Report:  A call was received stating a 3 year old female child approached the caller in the post office and stated her mother needed help.  The child pointed towards the Faith Harbor church.  An Officer responded and returned the child to its mother.

MVA-D:  A report of a single vehicle rollover at the hairpin turn on Thompson Pass was reported. An Officer and the State Trooper responded.   A tow truck was called, and towed the vehicle back to Valdez.  Officers stayed on scene until the road was clear.

Welfare Check:  A welfare check was requested on two children.  An Officer responded and contacted the parents and children.  All appeared to be fine.

MVA-D:  A Caller reported his truck was hit.  An Officer responded and issued PAR forms to the drivers and it was determined to be on private property so no further investigation was needed.

Problems with Neighbors:  A caller reports that her neighbor downstairs is banging on the ceiling and yelling.  This was reported to the landlord who said to report it to the Police Department.  She was informed to call the Police Department when it is going on so the Officers can investigate it.
