Recruitment: Certified Peace Officer – Lateral Transfer
Are you a certified police officer looking to be a trusted member of a team? The Windsor Heights Police Department is seeking applications from officers with a stakeholder mentality for the position of Certified Peace Officer to fill an anticipated opening on July 1st. For this recruitment, certified peace officer’s starting annual rate of pay shall be $46,337 - $50,518 depending upon experience. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, uniform allowance, paid time off (PTO), and enrollment in the IPERS retirement system.
Minimally qualified applicants must be:
o A certified peace officer through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as of April 2015
o OR be an out of state certified peace officer with a minimum of two years law enforcement
experience AND have honorably separated from employment within the past twenty-four months
o 21 years of age
o Be of good moral character
o Must have the ability to read, write, and speak the English language
o Have never been convicted of an indictable offense or crime of moral turpitude; deferred judgments must have a minimum of ten years elapsed from case resolution, simple misdemeanor
convictions other than traffic offenses must have a minimum of five years from case resolution
o Not addicted to drugs or alcohol or demonstrate on-going prior recreational drug use
o Have 20/100 eyesight which is correctable to 20/20 and color and field of vision are normal; normal hearing in each ear
o Must not object to the use of force in the line of duty
o Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
o A minimum of 30 undergraduate credit hours from an accredited post-secondary education institution is preferred
o Must hold a valid State of Iowa drivers license or commercial license upon hire
o Establish residency in the State of Iowa upon hire, must live within 25 minutes response time of the City within one year
o This position is subject to the City of Windsor Heights Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment, post-accident, deadly force, random, reasonable suspicion, and return to
duty and/or follow-up testing.
